London Office View

What is your Laurence Simons office like?

We have recently moved into our new office, near St Pauls which is a nice space and in a great location. One of my favourite things to do when in the office is a lunchtime walk over the Millenium Bridge and then back towards our office over Southwark Bridge.

What is your daily morning routine?

Depending on whether I am in the office or not, my morning routine differs. If I’m in the office, I’m up at 7, have breakfast and listen to a podcast, and then off to the station. If I’m working from home, I tend to snooze my alarm for a while and get up a bit closer to 9!

How did you come to work at Laurence Simons?

I applied back in the Spring of 2021, didn’t get the job initially, and joined an IT recruitment company. I was then back in contact with LS in January, went through the interview process again, and joined in March.

What does your role encompass?

When I joined Laurence Simons, my role was a hybrid between business support and talent acquisition, but as I write this, I have just moved fully into the talent acquisition team. As a member of the talent acquisition team, my role is focused on candidate curation, helping to search for the best candidates, presenting them to the consultant, and helping to manage them through the search process.

What projects are you currently working on?

In terms of searches, I am working on a role for a Senior Legal Counsel with a German-based packaging solutions company. We have also just completed a search for a Legal Counsel Europe with a Swedish, rare diseases company that specialises in treatment in the areas of hematology and immunology. I have also been involved in the General Counsel Study that we have been carrying out through our psychometric testing partner Lumina Learning.

Who do you work most closely with?

For searches, I work in a team with Angela Floydd, our CCO and Anu Malhotra, our Head of Business Support and Delivery, supporting them on all Swiss-based searches. More widely, I work closely with the business support and talent acquisition teams on day-to-day matters and we help each other with any ongoing projects.

What do you enjoy about your work?

I enjoy the collaborative, team approach that we have here at LS. I don’t come from a legal background so I have enjoyed being able to learn from the team how the recruitment process works differently within the legal sector.

How do you socialise with the team?

I socialise with the London team through the social events that we have organised by the social committee, with enjoyable events booked after work including an evening at London’s only Pétanque bar – a very enjoyable night but not much Pétanque was played!

How do you spend time out of work, and what are your main hobbies and passions?

I am a massive sports fan, particularly football and cricket. Over the summer, I played cricket most Saturdays and now the football season has started again, I will be watching Arsenal and playing football wherever possible.

What are you looking forward to?

With the winter coming up, there’s naturally less to look forward to but there are still a lot of good things going on. Particularly the world cup, although the way England are playing at the moment, I’m not sure we will be in it long enough to interrupt my December plans!

Can you tell us a little more about the city you live in?

I am born and bred in London, coming from North, where I still live, in the Borough of Barnet (London’s most populous borough)!

What are your favourite places in London?

Favourite places to go out in the evening are Camden and Shoreditch with the endless options of restaurants, pubs and bars. On quieter days, I also enjoy going to Hampstead Heath, a lovely place to walk in both summer and winter.

Highgate and Hampstead are lovely for anyone who is visiting North London. I also enjoy cycling and there are some great routes through East London, around Victoria Park and London Fields, you can actually go right up and past the London (Olympic) Stadium which is quite cool (only downside is that West Ham now play there).
